Analytical Facilities

Professor Dinesh Mohan group hosts a large variety of equipment and instrumentation (acquired with substantial support from the University Grant Commission, New Delhi; Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi). We use various physical and chemical analyses for our research activities and maintain a suite of instrumentation for this purpose.

Most of the equipment are used for the major and trace elements determination in a wide variety of matrices (e. g. water, soil, biomass). In addition, a facility has been created for the CO2 flux measurement for C-sequestration studies. A slow pyrolysis reactor has been designed to convert lignocellulosic biomass into biooil and biochar. Facilities are also available for the synthesis of nano materials.

The laboratory is equipped with a full range of analytical instruments for the analyses of drinking water, groundwater, surface water and industrial wastewater. Facilities are available to measure pH, alkalinity, hardness (total, calcium and magnesium) acidity, conductance, turbidity, odor, color, TDS, sulfates, chlorides, fluorides, nitrates, silica, metals, and heavy metals, various forms of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus in determining water quality.

The laboratory follows quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) guidelines.

The structural analyses and physical properties of the developed materials are carried out at Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility (AIRF).

Sophisticated analytical facilities in our laboratory include:
  • Double beam UV-Visible spectrophotometer (Lambda 35, Perkin Elmer)
  • Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAnalyst400, Perkin Elmer)
  • Flame photometer(Elico India)
  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometer Flame photometer
  • Multi-Ion meter(5 Star, Thermo Orion)
  • Automated Soil CO2 flux measurement system (Li-Cor Biosciences, USA)
  • Atmospheric controlled muffle furnace (Thermolyne, Thermo Scientific)
  • Weighing balance (Mettler Toledo)
  • BOD incubator (Macroscientific, India)
  • pH meter( Eutech)
  • Ultrasonicator
  • Muffle furnace
  • Environmental Chamber
  • Water Bath Incubator Shakers
  • Double distillation unit (Borosil, India)
  • Hot air oven
  • Sieve Shaker
  • Digital burette
  • Vacuum pump
  • Rotary Mixer
